KL Rahul, the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, is expected to miss the current IPL 2023 season, according to a report in PTI, therefore the team would be without his services. Rahul will attend the game between Lucknow and the Chennai Super Kings, but he will fly out to Mumbai on Thursday to have scans for his injured leg.
While rushing behind the ball during Monday's loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Ekana Stadium, the 31-year-old suffered an injury to his right leg.
Rahul is presently in a “race against time” to get well enough to play in the World Test Championship final against Australia, which will take place at the Oval in London from June 7–11. According to the PTI report, prominent bowler Jaydev Unadkat will also miss the rest of the season.
KL is now in Lucknow with the squad, but on Thursday he will depart after viewing the match against CSK on Wednesday. His scans will be performed in Mumbai at the hospital approved by the BCCI. The BCCI would handle both his case and Jaydev's, according to a senior BCCI official who was reported by PTI.
The insider also verified that scans had not yet been done; after the swelling subsides, scans can only be done. Krunal Pandya will captain LSG in their remaining games with Rahul expected to miss them, beginning with Wednesday's intense contest against Chennai Super Kings.
“There is a significant amount of pain and swelling in and around the region when someone receives an injury like this. Only once the edema has subsided for 24 to 48 hours can you undergo the scan, the insider said.
The PTI source said, “It would only be prudent that he (KL Rahul) doesn't take any further part in IPL since he (KL Rahul) is an important member of Test team.”
In IPL 2023, Rahul scored the most runs for his team, totaling 274 in nine innings.
The BCCI medical team will choose the next steps after the scans determine the extent of the damage, according to the PTI report.
With 10 points after 9 games, the Lucknow Super Giants are presently third in the IPL 2023 rankings. While Shardul Thakur of Kolkata Knight Riders is another player nursing an injury ahead of the summit match, Rahul and Unadkat's injuries have added to Team India's growing injury list prior to the WTC final.
